Round Table Discussions
We will have four sessions of round table discussions on a variety of topics, and attendees can choose the discussions they would like to join. Each session lasts for 50 minutes, with a 10-minute break in between.

Afternoon Seminar: Insights from the Certified Floodplain Surveyor Program
FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has always been a significant aspect of property ownership adjacent to or in flood prone areas. Properties are required to comply with numerous regulations specific to flood prone areas; these regulations are included in local ordinances as a direct requirement of a community’s participation in the National Flood Insurance Program. The surveying industry has been involved in assisting property owners and floodplain managers with critical elevation and location information.
Gerald Stockman attended a multi-day training program in November that was designed to bring the Certified Floodplain Surveyor Program to New England. Attending this certification training and passing the certification examination gives a surveyor the expertise required to be recognized as an authority in the field. Gerald will share some of what he learned during this 20-hour certification program, to help Vermont surveyors work with clients having floodplain-related issues.

Survey Department Manager, Trudell Consulting Engineers in Williston
Gerald is a licensed land surveyor who brings a wide range of experience and skills to his projects thanks to his work in the municipal, state, federal, and private sectors. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for five years as a mechanic and crew chief, and later worked at Dubois & King for close to 15 years. He is now the survey department manager at TCE.
Gerald earned an associate's degree in land surveying from Paul Smith's College. He holds a Commercial UAS License, a Project Management Certificate, and now a Certified Floodplain Surveyor Designation from NSPS.
Gerald is a resident of Jericho, Vt., where he is raising twin teenage boys, so managing a survey department is a piece of cake for him. In his free time, Gerald enjoys being involved in community theatre and Nightmare Vermont where he is the “construction boss.”
